Investing in our local community since 1967…

The Birkenhead Licensing Trust was established in 1967 to operate on and off licences for the sale of alcohol in the old Birkenhead Borough Council area.

The Trust currently owns two bars: The Good Home in Birkenhead and the Inn Field in Glenfield.

The profits from these two bars and the net proceeds from the Lion Foundation pokie machines located in each bar, are distributed each year to community groups in the Trust’s local area. In the Covid affected 2021/2022 period the Trust distributed close to $1,200,000 of net proceeds to groups in the Birkdale, Beachhaven, Birkenhead, Glenfield and Northcote.

The Trust has six elected trustees. The trustees are elected at the same time as the Auckland Council local body elections. The trustee’s role is to oversee the businesses and to consider and approve net proceed grants to local community groups.
