About the Trust
The Birkenhead Licensing Trust was established in 1967 to operate on and off licences for the sale of alcohol in the old Birkenhead Borough Council area.
The net proceeds from the Lion Foundation gaming machines located in the Good Home Birkenhead, the Inn Field Sports Bar Glenfield and the Wairau Sports Bar, are distributed each year to community groups in the Trust’s local area. In 2024 the Trust via the Lion Foundation helped to distribute approximately $2,000,000 from gaming net proceeds to groups in the Birkdale, Beach Haven, Birkenhead, Glenfield and Northcote.

The Inn Field is a sports bar in the heart of Glenfield. Net proceeds from gaming machines at the Inn Field are redistributed back to the community in partnership with the Lion Foundation.
Our Team
The Trust has six elected trustees. The trustees are elected from and by the local community every 3 years. These elections are held at the same time as the Auckland Council local body elections. The trustee’s role is to oversee the businesses and to consider and approve grants to local community groups.
